It is said that a little learning is a dangerous thing, so the Shire of Stormsport and the Aethelmearc Aecademy are uniting to provide a day with lots of learning! On Saturday, June 19, we will gather at Temple Anshe Hesed (930 Liberty St., Erie, PA 16502) for a day of classes. As this is being written, classes are just beginning to be organized. Check the AEthelmearc AEcademy website, (http://www.aecademy.org) for a more complete list and schedule. If you wish to teach, please contact the chancellor of the Aecademy, Baroness Mairi ni Raghaillaigh, at Mairi@barhus.org or 215-438-7251 (before 10PM). Two special tracks are planned; one on research and one on Jewish life in period. Classes for the War College are also being organized. Contact Sir Alonzio the Peacemaker (Gordon Tujague) at A1onzio@bellatlantic.net or 412-323-3848 (before 11PM). The autocrat is Lady Leah Janette (Janet Davis, 432 W. 7th St., Erie, PA 16502), who can be reached at email@example.com or 814-451-0250 (after 9AM).
The site will open at 10AM, with the first classes at 11AM. Since the days will be long by then, classes will probably run until 7PM or 7:30PM. The site closes at 8PM. There will be an all day sideboard of ample proportions. The cost of all this will be a mere $8.00. Anyone who wants to reassure the autocrat and send in advance registrations, please send them to Lady Ciara (Char Smith, 1104 Michigan Blvd., Erie, PA 16505). Make checks payable to "SCA, Inc. -- Shire of Stormsport". To encourage our youth to pursue education, all those under the age of 18 will be admitted free of charge (although there will be a jar for donations to the food costs). At this time, we have no organized children's activities. Anyone interested in doing such should contact the autocrat or Baroness Mairi if classes are involved.
There is indoor space for merchants, but contact the autocrat ahead of time. The Sylvan Signet will be having a silent auction for the benefit of the hard-working scribes of our kingdom and there will be a great number of items to bid on. There is some crash space available with Shire members; contact the autocrat. Summer weekends are not the best time to find a cheap motel room in Erie, but efforts will be made to find some discounts contact the autocrat. On the other hand, if it isn't raining, June would be a great time to stay over Sunday and check out the great beaches at Presque Isle and other tourist diversions.
Directions: The simplest way to get there from any direction will be to start by taking your best route to the intersection of I-90 and I-79. Proceed on I-79 North to the 12th Street East exit (if you come to a traffic light before exiting, you've gone too far.) Take 12th St. for a goodly way to the intersection with Liberty St. There will be a traffic light and a car dealership on the corner. Turn left. Go 2 blocks to 10th St. and the Temple is on the corner. We will be using the 10th St. entrance there is a short-term unloading space there. Street parking is relatively plentiful and free or you may circle the block to find the small parking lot in the back of the building.
If you are coming from the east, you can get off of I-90 at the Parade St. exit, turning right off the exit ramp and taking that street a long way until you reach 10th St. Turn left on 10th St. and proceed a couple miles until you reach the site at the corner of 10th and Liberty. This route will cut your mileage from the east, but more stoplights and city speed limits may keep it from being any faster than the other way.
